Course Description
The ISAK Level 1 Anthropometry Course is designed to comply with the ISAK international anthropometry accreditation scheme. The course is delivered and assessed over 3-days by Level 3 Instructor and Senior Lecturer Dr Sarah Hillier, with a combination of theory and practice through short seminars and hands-on practical's.
Theoretical components of the course include topics such as anatomy, body composition, somatotype and statistics and will be delivered by short seminar and problem-based learning activities. Practical application includes the measurement of a Restricted Profile (stature, mass, eight skinfolds, five girths and three breadths) adhering to the standards required by ISAK.
These measurements can be applied to a wide range of needs such as monitoring growth and maturation, identification and support of talented athletes, assessing health status, and evaluating exercise and nutrition interventions.
Assessment methods used within the course include:
- A practical exam demonstrating accurate precision in the assessment of an ISAK Level 1 Restricted Profile. The demonstration will be assessed on intra-tester reliability (how repeatable your own measurements are) and inter-tester reliability (how accurate you are compared with criterion measures).
- You will also be required to submit 20 post-course profiles within a four month period.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive the Level 1 ISAK Anthropometry Course accreditation (valid for four years) and ISAK membership.
