About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours 30 minutes

The aim of this event is to enrich students' understanding of Islam by offering the opportunity to visit Europe's first eco-mosque (Cambridge Central Mosque) with Dr. Timothy Winter, and through taster sessions on the academic study of Islam. Students will also have the opportunity to explore undergraduate study at the Cambridge Faculty of Divinity.

This event is for high-achieving Year 9-12 students. We are especially eager to host students who are studying Religious Studies and Philosophy, or who are interested in studying religion, philosophy, and the philosophy of religion at University, but the event is open to all pupils.

There is no registration fee, but participants will need to bring their own lunch.

Groups are welcome, but space is limited and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate all applicants. Please email outreach@divinity.cam.ac.uk if you would like to bring a group of more than 10 students.

Students in Year 9 to 11 must have at least one accompanying adult per group. Year 12 students may attend unaccompanied, but must understand the transport implications of moving between the mosque and Faculty.

This event is taking place at several locations and participants will need to move sites through the day. The first part of the event takes place at the Cambridge Central Mosque which is located here. Before lunch, participants will need to move to the Faculty of Divinity on West Road (Cambridge, CB3 9DP). As these locations are approximately 3.5 km apart, there will not be time to walk from one to the other. If you are driving to the event, you will need to arrange for your driver to be available at midday. If you arrive by train and walk to the mosque, we will seek to support your travel arrangements between the two sites (please email outreach@divinity.cam.ac.uk to arrange this).

Students will need to bring materials to take notes, alongside a packed lunch and water bottle.

If you have accessibility requirements, please email outreach@divinity.cam.ac.uk. We are committed to making our events as accesible as possible and will work to ensure that all requirements are accomodated.

For a funded place, please see this page.

We reserve the right to alter the program without prior notice.
