Speaker: Dr Usaama al-Azami

Title: ‘The Arab Revolutions and Western Muslims: Tracing a Transnational Story of a Crisis of Religious Authority’

Usaama al-Azami is a Departmental Lecturer in Contemporary Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford. He completed his BA in Arabic and Islamic studies at Oxford, and his MA and PhD on modern Islamic political thought at Princeton University. His primary research interests lie in modern Islamic thought, both in Muslim-majority lands and the West. His first book, Islam and the Arab Revolutions: Democracy, Autocracy and the Sharia in Modernity, is out in 2020.
