About this event
Newham Council is proud to mark Islamophobia Awareness Month, highlighting the threat of Islamophobic hate crime.
This year's unified theme for Islamophobia Awareness Month is #TimeForChange
Join us for an enlightening evening, which will feature some high profile, and inspirational speakers who will discuss the prejudices faced by Muslim women.
Guest Speakers include:
• Dr Amina Yaqin: Associate Professor in World Literatures and Publishing at the University of Exeter (@aminayaqin)
• Julie Siddiqi MBE: Mentor, Consultant and Gender Equality Campaigner with a specific focus on Jewish-Muslim Relations (@julie.siddiqi)
• Sabba Khan: Newham based south Asian Muslim Visual Artist, Graphic Novelist and Architectural Designer and Animator of the Video ‘Representing Islam on Campus’ (https://sabbakhan.com/)
• Sufiya Ahmed : Award-winning children’s author and contributor in the anthology ‘It's Not About the Burqa’
The event will be hosted and chaired by Shreen Mahmood, radio presenter and World Hijab Day UK Ambassador.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask the panel questions following the discussions.
