International Day to Combat Islamophobia webinar - discussing recent reports highlighting contemporary development of Islamophobia in Europe
About this event
ENORB is hosting an inaugural online dialogue style webinar on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia as part of its commitment to facilitating dialogue around pressing issues of political violence and structural discrimination affecting vulnerable religious and non-religious communities alike. There are rising concerns among civil society organisations about the contemporary development of Islamophobia and resulting anti-Muslim hatred in Europe, especially in light of two recent monumental reports on the topic.
This is part of ENORB's ongoing campaign and awareness raising (and series of webinars) to explore the Islamophobia epidemic in Europe, and examine how it affects lives and what needs to be done: What future for Europe's Muslim communities?
This first online session will examine recent reports and includes a panel:
- Dr Farid Hafez – USA - Visiting Professor of International Studies at Williams College; a non-resident senior researcher, Georgetown University's Bridge Initiative at the School of Foreign Service. Founder and co-editor, European Islamophobia Report (2020)
- Dr Stephen Jones – UK - Lecturer, College of Arts and Law at Birmingham University, UK. A sociologist specialising in British Muslims, religious and non-religious publics’ perceptions of science, he is the co-author of The Dinner Table Prejudice: Islamophobia in Contemporary Britain (Jan 2022)
- Linda Hyökki – Finland / Turkey - A writer and commentator on Islamophobia and racism, currently completing a Ph.D. on Finnish Muslim converts’ experiences of Islamophobia.
Discussions will be co-facilitated and moderated by ENORB Board member, and Managing Director of The Cordoba Foundation, Dr Abdullah Faliq and ENORB Director Mark Ereira-Guyer. This online dialogue session is the first of a series being planned by ENORB in partnership with others on Islamophobia. Please contact mark@enorb.eu in the first instance to be part of the planning.
A special book club meeting at 19.00 GMT (20.00 CET) on Tuesday 15th March has also been organised by Civil Society Consulting CIC, ENORB and Faith Network for Manchester to discuss Tawseef Khan's new paperback version 'Muslim, Actually': https://www.eventbrite.com/e/book-club-with-tawseef-khan-author-of-muslim-actually-tickets-245734517557?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=escb
