About the Book

Following the death of her beloved mother, Roz’s ordered professional life is thrown into disarray when she discovers that much of what she thought she knew about her parents was a lie, including her own paternity. In search of answers as to why her mother took so many secrets to the grave, Roz is compelled to visit Guernsey, her mother’s birthplace, to discover who she really is.
Written with emotional depth and impressive historical insight, Island Song follows both Helene, and her survival through the Nazi Occupation in the Second World War, and Roz’s exploration into the past. Roz finds a community still affected by the psychological toll of living with the enemy and the messy reality of human relationships. As Roz digs deeper she begins to understand the compromises Helene made for love and for life and that the truth is hard to pin down.
