About this event
Experience Craftsmanship and Highland Heritage at Abertarff House
Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of creativity, history, and artisan design at the inaugural Islander Workshop in the Highlands.
In partnership with the National Trust for Scotland, this exclusive event takes place at Abertarff House—the oldest surviving house in Inverness, a gem steeped in centuries of Highland heritage. For the first time ever, Islander brings their renowned handbag-making workshop to the north, offering you the chance to design and craft your own bespoke handbag using their signature Harris Tweed® cloth lids.
Founded in 2010 and based in Edinburgh and St Andrews, Islander has earned acclaim for combining traditional Scottish textiles with contemporary craftsmanship. Their sought-after workshops have delighted participants across Scotland—and now, it’s your turn to experience the magic.
What to Expect:
Settle into a beautifully restored 17th-century room, where history comes alive in every corner—including a newly interpreted marriage lintel inscribed with the initials of Helen Pape and Alexander Stewart, adding a romantic Highland touch to your creative journey.
As you design your unique handbag with guidance from Islander's expert team, enjoy a selection of refreshments, including tea, coffee, and sweet treats. All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with a truly one-of-a-kind accessory.
