Event Details

The Irish-Scottish Links on Energy Study (ISLES) is a major initiative designed to enable the development of interconnected grid networks to enhance the integration of marine and offshore renewable energy between the three ISLES project partner countries (Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland) and with the wider UK.  The second phase of the project is entitled ISLES II ‘Towards Implementation’, and is due to complete in summer 2015. The project is supported under the EU’s INTERREG IVA programme – more information on the project and its background can be found at .

As part of their stakeholder engagement programme, the project partners would like to invite you to a seminar to discuss:

  • the ISLES Business Plan - led by Baringa Partners, Source Low Carbon and Bellenden:

-   The Business Plan will be used to inform and promote potential future commercial development of a sub-sea electricity network and associated renewable energy projects in the ISLES Zone.

  • the ISLES Network Regulation and Market Alignment Study – led by Pöyry Management Consulting and Energy Link:

-   The Network Regulation and Market Alignment Study seeks to build on the regulatory scenarios and related economic analysis prepared under ISLES I and to devise a recommended model of market operation for the ISLES partner jurisdictions that could also have the potential for adaption elsewhere in the EU.

The seminar will offer an opportunity to learn about the emerging themes and principles underpinning both of these ISLES works streams, to discuss the challenges that need to be addressed to realise the ISLES vision, and to consider potential solutions to those challenges, including regulatory and market access options.  We intend for feedback received to help shape our final reports and recommendations ahead of their publication in early summer this year. There will also be an opportunity for pre-registered participants that want to discuss a particular subject - to sign-up for a 15 minute one-to-one discussion with ISLES project representatives.

We would be very pleased if you or a representative could join us on Thursday 5 March at Hilton Belfast, 4 Lanyon Place, Belfast, Antrim, BT1 3LP (map)

Please register as soon as possible using this page if you and/or a colleague plan to attend one of these events.  As places will be limited we may have to restrict the number of representatives attending from any individual company or organisation.

If you are unable to attend the event in Belfast on Thursday 5 March, an event is being held in London on Monday 2 March. You may also be interested to attend the consultation workshops taking place in relation to the third ISLES II Spatial Plan and Sustainability workstream in Belfast Wednesday 4 March, in Dublin on Friday 6 March or in Glasgow on Monday 9 March.
