Description

NICOLAH invites you to her first headline show as part of the annual Islington Proms at St James Church.

With support from special guests Gon von Zola & SVETLANA expect an eclectic mix of acoustic & stripped back performances within the beautiful architecture of St James church.

NICOLAH

Winner of the 2018 Open Category - Mayor of London GIGS Competition chosen by Judges Newton Faulkner, Lauren Churchman (BBC6music), Fuzz Chaudhrey (BBC Radio 1), Swarzy Macaly (KISS FM) & James Brister (ICMP).

Nicolah is a Cumbrian singer songwriter based in London has just released her new single Out of the Pie after performing in play, Section 28 & the Queer State directed by Kay Adshead at the Alexandra Palace.

After playing live for literally millions on London’s busy underground platforms, her first single Flow won the 2016 Mayor of London GIGS Songwriting Prize sponsored by PRS for Music taking her to play Glastonbury 2017 alongside Everything Everything, Naughty Boy & Mullally. Since then she's received support & multiple airplay from BBC introducing’s Tom Salmon and in August 2018 recorded a live session.

Her music is a sum of fresh life experiences about faith, sexuality, culture… A unique and empathic world view. Built on a foundation of classic songwriting, it blends pop sensibilities with an indie spirit. She shares similarities with early Katy Perry and her Christian pop roots, the sweet strum & vocals of Joni Mitchell, and the stadium pumping energy of Coldplay’s anthemic choruses.

Previous release Waiting on You was featured on Hoxton radio show Get in Her Ears, Spotify playlist Talk about pop music and the music video was premiered by blog, She Makes Music. New single Out of the Pie is out now, Listen Everywhere: http://smarturl.it/43ywva

Gon von Zola

Out-of-the-box, right in your face! Lyrical blows to the jaw and some melody kicks to the groin.

North London-based musician/songwriter/producer Gon von Zola is a third culture kid with a UK band family and a Welsh riot grrrl songwriting partner. Bored of the music scene in his old hometown Leipzig near Berlin, Gon moved to London and joined the squatting scene.

In 2018 Gon von Zola released his debut single “Blue Is...”. The UK Unsigned Guide named the song as its track of the month, and it gained lots of media coverage. Since then hes released “LDN LPZ” & "Concrete Heaven" and is set to release an EP and an album this year! He will be joining us for a special unplugged set with his lovely band.

SVETLANA

“Svetlana is an up and coming blues/soul singer in based in London. There is a real timeless quality to her music. Lyrically and melodically she’s successfully tapped into the rich vein of female blues and soul singers that came before her.” – Fairlight Studios

The self-taught guitarist is currently working on her debut EP where listeners can expect to hear soul, funk and jazz enriched by the unique tones and lyricism of Svetlana. Known for a captivating stage presence and a voice that quietens any room, Svetlana has had the opportunity to play in some of the most prominent venues in London. These venues include Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, The Roundhouse, The Dublin Castle, Camden Assembly but to name a few. You're in for a real treat.
