Panel discussion and reception with leading Palestinian and Israeli human rights defenders
About this event
While the term apartheid was originally used to refer to the 1948 -1994 political system in South Africa, it has since then been clearly defined in international law to condemn and criminalise such systems and practices wherever they occur in the world.
Palestinian human rights organisations such as the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights have documented and denounced the Israeli system of apartheid against Palestinians for decades. In January 2021, B’Tselem, Israel’s leading human rights organisation published a landmark report concluding that Israel enacts a regime of apartheid in all the territories it controls in order to advance the supremacy of Jewish people over Palestinians. Other international organisations have followed through, and in February 2022 Amnesty International launched a major new report and global campaign to help end Israeli apartheid. Since then, several voices within the UN have confirmed that what is happening in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories is indeed apartheid.
This panel discussion is the chance to learn more about these investigations as well as what can be done to dismantle Israel’s racist system of oppression and domination against Palestinians.
Doors will open at 18:00. The event will start at 18:30 and finish at 20:00. There will be a reception afterwards.
The event will be live streamed and recorded. Link to follow.
