Trish Johnson is a chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

She has been involved in various aspects of engineering throughout her career. She has worked in a Consultancy practice managing a number of Highways and Transportation offices, promoted Civil Engineering as Regional Director for the ICE, and maintained bridges as Head of Maintenance at the Severn River Crossing.

Last year, she took up the enviable role of Bridge Master on the Clifton Suspension Bridge. This high profile role covers the major projects and maintenance of the bridge, the managing of the business including the visitor centre and the engagement with the public and Trustees.

She is a keen advocate of engineering and sits on the University of the West of England Advisory Board for Civil Engineering, is an ICE mentor and is one of the judges for the ICE Civil Engineering Awards in the South West.

Aogan Mulcahy currently works as a Principal Engineer/Project Manager for COWI where he has gained over 15 years experience of bridge refurbishment works and new-build bridge projects.

Recently he has been involved with the bridge refurbishment works on the iconic Tower Bridge and M48 Wye Bridge as well as the new-build projects of the Mersey Gateway Bridge and the Tappan Zee Bridges (New York State, USA).

Since 2006, Aogan has been an integral part of COWI's team commissioned to work on the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. He has been involved with providing engineering advice to the Board of Trustees in relation to the maintenance of this 153 year old Grade 1 listed bridge. The range of studies, reports and refurbishment works in that time has covered all aspects of bridge maintenance whilst ensuring a sympathetic approach to the conservation of the original fabric and character of this Isambard Kingdom Brunel devised structure.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is a well know icon of Bristol. This talk will give you an insight into how this bridge came to be built, what is involved in its maintenance and the future projects for the bridge
