I.T. - Stage 3 Working Knowledge - Harrow College "Preparation for Work"
Event Information
Description
We have a new volunteering opportunity for you to work with young people at Harrow College.
For business to thrive we know we need a steady stream of work-ready, eager, confident, skilled and ambitious new young employees leaving our colleges and schools.
However, this will not be achieved by teachers and careers advisors alone since they cannot know what actually happens in the professional workplace.
Quote from a student:
“Today was the first time I have had the chance to actually talk to someone doing the career I am interested in. I have learned so much! There are jobs I could do which I had no idea about before! I know I am doing the right course at college now and I will work harder to achieve my goals.” Aisha, Harrow.
So what are we asking of you?
To volunteer from 2-hours to a day of your time to mock-interview individual students for 10-15 minutes each and then provide feedback on their performance.
We know that having prior experience of interviews can have a profound impact on how successful young people are. Therefore, these events are designed to allow Harrow students to practice in a ‘safe’ environment, to learn from their mistakes and perfect their technique. But of course we cannot do this without the help of professionals to provide an element of realism.
The events are structured and fully supported by college and Working Knowledge staff. You will NOT be asked to give a big presentation and there is no preparation necessary - we just want you to be yourselves!
