It's a Melly-Go-Round

By North Cambridgeshire Training Centre

Overview

Create a beautiful book using circles-go back in time and use Spirograph to create your design along with transfer dyes and hand embroidery!

Circles, what do they symbolise?

There is something complete about a circle, yet it continues, round and round.

The circle is a universal symbol and has many meanings. It represents the concept of totality, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, wholeness. It is the most efficient shape as it has no stress points as every part it equal.

This is why Mel loves circles and has developed a little book to demonstrate that.

However, it does not have to be a book and can be made into panels!

You will go back in time and use a Spirograph, as well as transfer dyes, S80 craft vlieseline, different sized washers and hand embroidery.

What will you cover each week?

Week 1: Circles: creating backgrounds with hand drawn circular patterns and/or using the spirograph and painting with transfer dyes and transferring onto the vlieseline.

Week 2: Stitching onto washers, vlieseline circles, beads, using different hand embroidery to create raised circular pieces.

Week 3: Continuing completing the washers and applying them onto the backgrounds.

Week 4: Finishing off the squares with more stitching. Also, we will use a soldering iron to create marks and patterns.

When?

All sessions are on Thursdays from 1pm - 4pm starting on Thursday 26th February until Thursday 19th March.
