Event description

Description

Learn practical, rights based approaches for involving disabled young people and those with SEN in decision-making through an interactive webinar on our e-learning platform.

The webinar was developed by the Council for Disabled Children (CDC) in partnership with Face Front Inclusive Theatre, a group of disabled and non-disabled artists. This innovative training uses video performances to explore the experiences of young people and their families and demonstrates practical aspects of rights based decision making and related key legislation, including the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

This webinar uses the recording of a live, interactive session which took place on 7th December 2017, involving over 30 professionals. Through our e-learning platform you will be able to interact with the webinar to mirror the live event, and to see other professionals' responses. You can access this webinar at any time up until 23rd January 2019.

By taking part in the training you will:

  • Be introduced to the legislation surrounding supported decision making for disabled young people and those with SEN

  • Understand the 5 key principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and how to apply them in practice

  • Learn practical person-centred approaches for involving young in decision making, whether of not they have the capacity, including use of the ‘best interest checklist’

  • Explore experiences of young people through video performance and hear from and see other practitioners' responses

The webinar is kindly funded by the Baring Foundation through their Strengthening the Voluntary Sector programme. As such registration for the event is free.
