Women’s Creekside Walk with Julia O’Hara – Sunday 31st August
Following on from our recent email, we're excited to invite you to our next walk — a beautiful circular route through woodland, creeks, and coastal charm.
Route: Circular walk from Helford to Frenchman’s Creek and back
Meet: 10:00am at Helford Car Park, TR12 6JU
what3words: noticing.heightens.shows
Pets: Dogs on leads are allowed. Please note that there is one stile (a flight of wooden steps) reported as tricky for large dogs. Ensure dogs are kept on leads as there may be free-range chickens in the area, especially by the chapel.
Distance: Approx. 3 miles
Time: Approx. 2 hours
Terrain: A couple of climbs at the start, then mostly level along the creek – walking boots recommended!
Highlights
- Historic creekside village of Helford
- The tiny Chapel of St Francis at Pengwedhen
- Serene views over Frenchman’s Creek
- Mature broadleaf woodland (with bluebells and wild garlic in spring!)
This gentle, scenic route takes us along the tranquil banks of Frenchman’s Creek, famously written about by Daphne du Maurier after her honeymoon there in 1932.
"The creek twisted around a belt of trees... this creek was a source of enchantment... a new escape."
On the way, we’ll pass Kestle Barton gallery, where there's the option to explore and enjoy a cup of tea at the café.
Optional Swim: There’s also the chance to swim in the creek — bring your swimming things if you'd like to dip in!
Let us know if you can join us — and feel free to bring a friend!
