Iyengar Yoga workshop Yoga Kurunta with Tina

Come join us for an exciting Iyengar Yoga workshop led by the wonderful Tina. This event will take place at Studio Harmony - Yoga Studio Govan, the perfect setting to deepen your practice and learn new approaches to asanas. Don't miss out on this opportunity to explore and enhance your practice with Tina's guidance & Kirstys encouragement!

Yoga Kurunta

Kurunta comes from a Sanskrit word meaning “a wooden doll or puppet which can be controlled by the use of strings attached to its limbs and head”.

BKS Iyengar first developed this by revisiting various paintings from ancient times. These paintings would have people suspended in mid-air using ropes. He looked through how these yogis utilized certain props like this and he incorporated them into his practices. He was able to arrive at a conclusion that the ropes actually help students in moving their bodies in a different way.

Yoga Kurunta aims to allow the body to be suspended as well as supported. Because the body is tethered by the ropes and anchored with the feet, a pose like Down Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) can be held for a much longer period of time. This gives you an opportunity to refine, focus and go deeper into the experience of asana.

About Tina

Tina had been practicing Iyengar Yoga for over 20 years before she decided that she wanted to be a teacher. She began practicing because yoga was recommended to alleviate her back problems and continued because of the benefits, not only to her physical health but also her general well-being. She began teaching Iyengar yoga to pass on the remarkable benefits to the community groups of children, young people and vulnerable adults that she works with in her job as a community artist/musician.

Having recently returned from visiting the Iyengar Yoga institute in Pune, for the 50th year celebrations, I’m sure Tina will make this our own Yoga celebration!

Tina’s studio is located in Govan (3mins from the subway), and is a well equipped studio! Bolsters, foams, bricks, belts, blankets, ropes & more! So all you need is your lovely self!
