RYA Dinghy Instructor Course Dates:

14/15 September - Weekend 1

28/29 September - Weekend 2

6 October – Moderation

Candidates must have passed a pre-entry assessment in order to avail of a place on the course. See eligibility notes below.

All candidates MUST already be 16 years old and hold the RYA Powerboat level 2 certificate, as candidates will be expected to drive a powerboat on the course.

Eligibility

Prior to the course candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

NOTE: Membership of the RYA (or the National Governing Body for your boating activity in your country of residence) is required in order for you to qualify or revalidate as an RYA instructor.

You must provide a passport photo of yourself for your instructor certificate.

Health Declaration

You will be asked to sign a health declaration stating that you are not suffering from any physical or mental impaiment which has an adverse effect on your abililty to properly discharge your duty of care as an instructor.

If you are unable to sign the standard declaration, you will be required to complete this medical questionnaire.

Training

Training in teaching techniques afloat and ashore is provided during the instructor training course, which is staffed by RYA Coach/Assessors. The course will be based on a five-day week or 50 hours, but may take the form of a number of weekends, single days or sessions. Courses run on a protracted basis may take slightly longer than 50 hours to allow for revision time.

Moderation/Assessment

The moderation will usually take place on the final day of the course and will be carried out by a Coach/Assessor who has not been involved in training the candidate. Candidates will be required to demonstrate competence in course preparation, delivery and management, as well as customer liaison.

Certificate validity

Instructor certificates are valid for five years from the date of issue, provided that a valid first aid certificate is maintained.
