South Downs Hike –
Wolstonbury Hill, Jack & Jill Windmills & Lewes
Join GO London Hiking for a stunning day hike across the South Downs National Park, blending history, sweeping views, and charming countryside trails. Starting from Hassocks, we’ll ascend Wolstonbury Hill, once home to an Iron Age hillfort, where a 360° panorama stretches across the North Downs and south to the English Channel.
Our route passes the turreted Clayton Tunnel North Portal, one of Britain’s most unusual Victorian railway structures, before joining the famous South Downs Way. From here we’ll encounter the iconic Jack and Jill Windmills, continue to the lofty heights of Ditchling Beacon, and cross the rolling chalk downs to Black Cap. The day ends with a descent into the historic market town of Lewes, perfect for a celebratory pub stop.
Expect undulating paths, woodland, and chalk downland with some short steep climbs. A rewarding hike with plenty of scenery and landmarks along the way.
