About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Robin will tell the tale of JACK AND THE BEANSTALK a brave young lad, who gains possession of some magic beans which, shortly after, grow into a mighty beanstalk in his garden. Soon, he finds himself in competition with a greedy GIANT who will stop at nothing to steal all the money from the people of the town. Throughout the story telling Robin will dim the lights and reveal his magical paper lanterns!

After the story you will be guided through a step-by-step process of creating a gorgeous story lantern to take home. With a small light inside, the pictures are brought to life and look amazing sitting on a shelf or hung from the ceiling. Made from simple materials (tissue paper, wood glue, etc), these lanterns are easy to assemble and fun to make. Once constructed, the fun really begins!

Children will be able to create their own stories for their lanterns by cutting out shapes from black card and gluing them in place. Alternatively, they can re-tell their version of the JACK story by using the templates provided on the day.

Hopefully, the children will be inspired to create their own story lanterns at home, either continuing the story of JACK, creating lanterns for other stories or even lanterns for stories that they have invented themselves.

All children aged under 9 years must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults do not need to purchase a ticket.
