The exhibition Jamaican Journeys: Identity, Place and Conversations through Art comes to an end on Fri 24 October. Celebrating the diverse, vibrant and engaging visual culture that has emerged from Jamaica since its independence in 1962, the show features a wide range of artworks from the extensive private collection of Jamaican-born entrepreneur and philanthropist Theresa Roberts.
Including paintings, sculpture, photography and printmaking, Jamaican Journeys provides a unique opportunity to explore artistic, geographic and historical connections between dynamic cultural identities and conversations about what it means to be Jamaican. The work on show provides a reflective journey through the work of many of Jamaica’s most celebrated artists, including renowned Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art alumna, Judy Ann MacMillan.
Join us for an evening reception to mark the closing of the exhibition. There will be Jamaican soft drinks and music and an informal tour of the show at around 5.30pm by co-curator Dr Susan P Mains.
The exhibition is a collaboration between the University of Dundee and Liverpool John Moores University with support from the Jamaican Patty Company, the Black Circle Gallery and the University of Hull.
