Description

Jamesey's Meningitis Now & Beatson - Annual Charity Dinner 2018

As many of you know I have long been a volunteer and a fundraiser for Meningitis Now, a charity very close to my family’s heart and a charity that has benefited so much from your kind donations over the years almost £9,000. So, you’ll know I am now back on the fundraising trail for 2018!

Saturday 12th May - Charity Dinner

7:30 - Prosecco Reception

8:00 - Opening Ceremony

8:30 - Dinner - 3-course meal with a half a bottle of wine, tea / coffee

9:30 - Raffle and Entertainment by Highway Sons of Glasgow Band starts

12:15 - Bar closes

12:30 Carriages home

There’s a slight twist though, last year, my best friend and partner in crime Jackie was diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer and has since started her journey of cancer treatment with the Beatson.

So this year we’re also raising money for Beatson Cancer Charity, which is close to many people that we know, so let’s make this our best year fundraising yet!

Meningitis Now will receive 80% of all monies raised on the night and 20% will be donated to the Beatson Cancer charity.

Meningitis is a devastating and deadly virus and can leave survivors with life-changing disabilities and on-going health issues, such as memory loss, deafness and loss of limbs.

My family knows only too well the effects Meningitis can have on a family. It was many years ago now that my sister lost her wee boy Kristopher, who was just one. Although it was a long time ago, you never get over something like that.

Cancer does not discriminate, no matter whether you are healthy or not, if you’re young or old, if it wants to pick you it will. Treatment has come so far over the years; however, there's a lot more to do.

Jackie has started her treatment at The Beatson and we know there is still a long road ahead and are taking each day at a time.

The Beatson Cancer Charity provides vital funding to The Beatson West of Scotland to help them to continue improving the services they deliver to over 8,000 patients a year.
