Event description
Two Day London Intensive lead by James Wilton and company dancers

About this Event

We are pleased to open up a two day intensive with James Wilton Dance, exploring the companies highly physical signature style incorporating dance with elements of martial arts, sports, acrobatics and breakdancing.

The training will be lead by James Wilton, with assistance from dancers Sarah Jane Taylor and Nori Aoki, who will guide you through a floor work technique class, contact work, repertoire from current touring works The Storm, 2016 work LEVIATHAN, and creative tasks. We aim to safely teach you the fundamental principles of Wilton’s athletic choreography, exploring vocabulary and learning to use flow and expanse to harness the bodies full potential with movement in and out of the floor.

The intensive is suitable for professional dancers or dancers who are currently in professional training. Please note that spaces are very limited, we are also unable to offer any refunds.

Dates: 25th and 26th January 2020, 11-6 each day.

Typical daily timetable:

Technique class: The day will begin with a warm up class focussing on the fundamentals of safely using the floor in James Wilton Dance’s floor work technique. Using flow and momentum to connect movements, to efficiently shift in and out of the floor- incorporating elements of acrobatics and yoga within the sequence, gradually building up to jumping.

Contact work sessions: Participants will be lead through a contact work technique class, focussing on building up skills, strength and confidence to safely lift a partner and be lifted. The session will start with the core elements used to create Wilton’s signature exciting and edge of the seat partner work, gradually building up in complexity.

Rep sessions : Rep sessions will consist of learning and exploring repertoire from the companies works, The Storm and LEVIATHAN, as well as rep from our upcoming works. Rep sessions will explore solo movements phrases as well as using techniques covered in the contact work classes to learn partnering repertoire.

Creative session: James Wilton will lead dancers through creative tasks similar to those used for the creation of The Storm and LEVIATHAN, as well as exploring new ideas which will feed into the next company work due to premiere next year.

We look forward to seeing you there!
