About this Event
The January meeting and the Annual General Meeting of the Finnish Science Society in the UK will be held at the Finnish Church in London on Saturday 12 January 2019.
Schedule:
- 14:00 Talk and discussion: Brexit, Finland and science
- 15:30 Break
- 16:00 Annual General Meeting (agenda to be announced)
- 17:00 General networking, sauna etc.
The Brexit Withdrawal Agreement has now been negotiated, and the UK Parliament is due to vote on it on Tuesday 15 January. The focus will then shift to the negotiations on the future relationship between the UK and the EU. In the “Brexit, science and Finland” discussion, we will have an update on what the plans and priorities for that are from Finland’s perspective. We would also like to hear our members’ views on the topic, from a broad range of different perspectives, so that we can feed them back and influence the process.
This will be followed by the Annual General Meeting at 16:00, where the Committee is elected for 2019 and future activities are discussed. As a Society, the more active members we have, the more we can do. Therefore please come to the meeting with your ideas for activities, and consider putting yourself forward for the Committee. If you want to know more about the work of the Committee, please get in touch with us at finnish.science.uk@gmail.com.We encourage members to arrive before 14:00 to have lunch in the Church cafeteria with other members, and also stay afterwards for networking. The public sauna will be hot and open from 17:00 to 18:30 for women and from 18:40 to 20:30 for men.The event is intended for members, but joining is free and easy at https://www.finnishscience.org.uk/.
