Event description

Description

This is a 10 week course consisting of 10 x 2 hour sessions, Thursdays 7-9pm, commencing 18th January 2018. This course will be taught at our second site in Vauxhall. The minimum age for this course is 16.

Our Songwriting course for beginners will introduce you to the process of writing and arranging songs from lyric writing to the building of a produced demo. You will learn songwriting techniques and approaches that will help you write songs for yourself, a band or other artists whilst exploring the different genres and styles of contemporary popular music. You will also learn to collaborate, explore your artistic freedom and understand the commercial constraints of the music industry.

During the Beginners 1 course, you will explore the fundaments of the three pillars of songwriting: melody, lyrics and chords. You will cover enough on each subject to give you the confidence and tools to write your first song or improve and solidify your already existing songwriting skills. In addition, you will discover different song structures and ways of approaching songwriting as well as some notions of production and tips to get you started.

At the end of the 10 weeks of the Beginners 1 course, you will have the necessary tools to write your own songs and a basic understanding of music production and as well as an overview of the music business.

Our Songwriting course can be taken in addition to our other evening courses such as composition or recording and production. You can also take it to prepare for our undergraduate course in songwriting.
