Japanese Sweet Making Workshop
Event Information
About this Event
'Wagashi' Japanese Sweet Making Experience Workshop in London.
‘Wagashi’ is a general term for Japanese Sweets. There are many types of Japanese sweets but a fresh type called ‘Nerikiri’ is the one that is often served at a Tea Ceremony. It's got a soft and flexible texture that can be made into decorative seasonal sweets. It is usually Vegan and Gluten free as well as edible art.
In January the theme of the sweet is early spring. We are going to make sweets into shapes such as a Snow Rabbit and a 'Ume' Plum flower in two ways. There are many steps in Nerikiri making and the process takes time. In this workshop you will learn how to shape a sweet by hand.
The class will be taught by Mutsumi who has been making Japanese sweets for many years. After surpplying two types of monthly seasonal Wagashi sweets for a Matcha Bar at a Kimono shop in Notting Hill for three years she is now teaching how to make these sweets. Her sweets are presently served at a Matcha Bar in the Havan Store (the venue for this workshop).
The space is limited up to 9 people (over 12 years old) only.
