Event description

Description

Join us for a very special Wagashi sweet-making workshop in our Soho Tea Shop.

Wagashi are a hand-crafted Japanese confectionary, traditionally served during a tea ceremony. Like many other aspects of Japanese culture, Wagashi draws on the principles of aesthetic beauty and reverence for nature. As an appreciation for the changing of seasons, Wagashi are often made using seasonal ingredients and come in different intricate designs and colours throughout the year.

Here at My Cup of Tea, we serve fresh Wagashi with every bowl of Matcha. Beyond being able to experience the beauty and taste of this traditional confectionary, this hands-on workshop has been designed for you to learn the art, purpose and history of Wagashi sweet making.

Under the careful guidance of Niwa San, you will learn the techniques of Neriki, a style of Wagashi made from sweetened bean paste. Using red and white bean pastes made by Niwa San herself, you will sculpt your own Wagashi using traditional confectionary tools.

Along with a new appreciation and respect for this Japanese tradition, you will be able to take your personalised Wagashi sweets away with you at the end of the workshop. We are also offering participants 15% discount on all loose teas available in the shop on the evening.

To ensure you have the best experience, spaces for this workshop are limited so advance booking is necessary.
