"Conquering Pupil Disruption and Promoting Positive Attitudes To Learning"

The bottom line is that the latest report produced on behalf of the Government on pupil behaviour reveals horrifying and damming news. The report from the Policy Exchange Led by Dr Joanna Williams Head of Education and Culture titled "It Just Grinds You Down" published on December 17th 2018 stated that "Disruptive behaviour in schools is damaging children's learning and causing an exodus from the teaching profession". 75% teachers teachers said that low level disruption occurred frequently or very frequently in their own lessons. 72% teachers had known a colleague that had left the profession due to poor behaviour.

The effect of poor behaviour on pupils learning and life chances is startling. In some parts of the country exclusions have risen by 200% in the last year and OFSTED estimate that pupils lose at least 1 hour a day and 38 days within the academic year due to disruption in lessons. This led to OFSTED stating that "For too many pupils having a calm and orderly environment is a lottery". A newspaper article went further to describe it as " The Growing Scandal In Schools".

During this fun, down to earth, no-nonsense and interactive session, delegates will be provided with a whole toolkit of simple, practical and realistic strategies. These can be implemented the very next day in their own practice to de-escalate and diffuse any inappropriate behaviour quickly, effectively and non-confrontationally.

Delegates will be :

  • provided with a complete range of practical ideas to prevent any inappropriate behaviour occurring in the first place and creating a positive climate for learning.
  • equipped and empowered to adopt the key principles of developing outstanding behaviour, including rules, routines, relationships, rewards, engagement, effective teaching and learning, positive parental involvement, presence, assertiveness, confidence and consistency.
  • provided with a template to ensure that good behaviour in the classroom is transferred to around school in general and in social areas.
  • Delegates will also have the tools and strategies to support pupils to have a 'can do' attitude to learning where they are independent, resilient, take risks and have a growth mindset.

The heart of the session focuses on delegates looking at themselves and their own practice and taking responsibility for their behaviour issues and not passing the buck.

The course is suitable for all staff ranging from NQT's to experienced practioners in both Primary, Secondary and College settings .
