About this event

Holiday • Christmas

This Christmas, St Peter’s will be hosting an evening of Christmas jazz to celebrate the season. Jazz pianist-singer Jennie Beard will be joined by saxophonist Simeon Lord to perform a set of jazz-infused Christmas classics. From Christmas jazz classics, to carols, hymns, and even some re-worked modern numbers, this very special Christmas celebration will surely have something for everyone. There will also be mulled wine and mince pies during the event, plus some juice and biscuits for younger folks, to raise some money for the Churches Conservation Trust who look after this stunning building. We cannot wait for you to join us!

At this event, we will be raising money for Homeless Oxfordshire to support their vital work. £5 from every ticket will go straight to the charity. You can find out more about the charity here: Make a donation to Homeless Oxfordshire

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS:

Raised in Wallingford, Jennie is a versatile performer and musician who performs a variety of music, usually comprising of jazz, folk and musical theatre. At 16, Jennie joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra’s under 18 collective in London, and when she turned out, joined NYJO as a young professional and educator. Now studying for a BMus in jazz at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Jennie gigs regularly in Cardiff. As well as being a jazz pianist, Jennie is also a choral singer with BBC NCW in Cardiff and also a composer, writing a wide variety of music whilst also being firmly rooted in jazz tradition.

Jennie and Simeon met whilst at Didcot Sixth Form in the same A-Level music class, and have become both firm friends and musical colleagues ever since.

Simeon is an emerging young saxophonist based in Leeds. He spent his childhood in Nottingham, and moved to Didcot with his family as a teenager. He won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music’s junior department as a jazz saxophonist, and attended their Saturday school for a number of years. Simeon is currently studying for a jazz degree at Leeds Conservatoire, and despite having only been there a year, he has burst onto the scene and become a well-known musician in the Leeds community. They are both thrilled to be joining forces once again, and especially excited to be gigging back home.
