An evening showcasing the music of great jazz musician, Charles Mingus; music born out of 40s gospel churches, including everything from open improvised sections to beautiful ballad playing. Mingus’ music served as a social commentary of the poltical turbulance in America through the 40s-70s, all within the context of great, swinging compositions!

Lead by double bassist Ed Babar, Blues and Roots Ensemble is a diverse septet of top international players ranging from South Africa to Sicily, India to Cuba. The band specialise in arrangements of the great bandleader/composer, Charles Mingus, and has quickly grown a reputation for its captivating and raucous performances.
