jazz singing workshop using Tibetan bowls and yoga breathing
Sun 30 April 2017, 10:00 – 17:00 BST
Experience the healing power of singing and sound, learn new pranayama (breathing techniques) and increase your confidence in your musicality during a special one day workshop led by jazz musicians Sarah Chaplin and Linley Weir, in celebration of International Jazz Day 2017.
Over the course of the workshop you will deepen your understanding of the relationship between singing and breathing, between musical and energy-body octaves and chromaticism, and learn how to visualise and overcome energy blockages and performance issues. Using our voices, Tibetan singing bowls and other simple instruments, we will move through a sequence of chakra-based singing activities, building towards a short improvised vocal piece as a group with a chance to solo.
This workshop will appeal to singers of all ages, trained and untrained, jazz and non-jazz. You don't need to be able to read music, but it’s useful to have a good ear, a basic understanding of music and an interest in its spiritual and health-giving aspects.
The workshop will take place in the Dome, a unique geodesic structure in the corner of the garden. Don't worry it will be warm enough - they hold hot yoga classes here! Lunch, drinks and snacks are not provided but available in the lovely café next door to the Dome.
