THE TIERRA BUENA JAZZ BAND
Believe it or not, this legendary six-piece Jazz band have been performing their version of New Orleans and Dixieland jazz around Coventry for 67 years. We are delighted to welcome them to Temperance to perform their debut gig on Sunday 26th October at 2pm.
This is going to be a fabulous afternoon and we are fully expecting another full house. Advance tickets are only £10 and will go quick.
The Tierra Buena Jazz Band was formed in 1958 by a group of young men who had heard the music and decided that they wanted to play it themselves. They learnt to play and learned their craft with over sixty years of performing every Monday night in a variety of venues in and around Coventry.
Covid affected the band heavily, but they reformed under the guidance of their founder, Brian Bates, and now play all over the Midlands. They are at their very best with a live audience in intimate venues with a good atmosphere. Perfect for Temperance. The music is basically New Orleans and Dixieland but don’t be surprised when something different comes out.
Brian Bates died early in 2024 and handed the baton over to bass player John McIntosh, who has assembled a line-up of stunning musicians – all of whom have played with some very big names over the years.
This line up also features founder member Brian “Watty” Wathen on clarinet and vocals. The other members are: Dave Leithead, trumpet and vocals; Bob Hunt on trombone and vocals; Chris Reilly on keyboard, and Nick Ward on percussion.
The Tierra Buena Jazz Band plays what can only be described as ‘Hot Jazz’ with the added aspect of blues and some extremely cool numbers to even out the tempo.
