What should I wear to the workshop?

Accepted Answer

Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that lets you move freely — think joggers, streetwear, or anything you feel confident in. Trainers are recommended to support movement, but wear what makes you feel good and free to express yourself.

Do I need any prior dance experience?

Accepted Answer

No prior experience is necessary! These workshops are designed for all levels. Whether you’re a beginner or have experience, you’ll get personalized guidance and learn at your own pace.

Can I film or take photos during the workshop?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can film or take photos! We’ll have time at the end of the session for it, just make sure to respect others and not disrupt the flow. Feel free to share your clips and Insta @Youngjayxoxo

When will the workshop start, will it be weekly, and will it continue after summer?

Accepted Answer

The workshop will start in mid-August 2025. Exact dates and times are still to be announced, but the workshops will be weekly throughout the summer. I also plan to continue offering workshops beyond summer, so stay tuned for future dates and updates!

How are the workshops scheduled, and what styles will be taught?

Accepted Answer

Workshops run 2x/week with different styles each time. Styles include Afrobeats, Amapiano, Dancehall, K-pop, Reggaeton, Commercial/Urban, Freestyle and Contemporary. Song + style are shared in advance so you can choose sessions that fit your vibe and grow your own movement.

One artist who’s resonated with me for years is Mark Lee and not just for his talent, but for his honesty, depth, and how he expresses himself through music and movement. His authenticity and humility reflect the same energy I bring into these workshops.

How do you manage balancing your studies, dance, and workshops?

Accepted Answer

I’ll study mainly in the evenings, which fits how I learn since it’s project and research-based. I’ll schedule workshops around my study time and fit in performance or modeling as they come. Balancing dance, athletics, and academics takes focus, but staying aligned helps me manage

How do you manage your ADHD while balancing everything?

Accepted Answer

I manage differently by staying engaged and regulating focus like going to the gym consistently helps my processing. I take supplements like zinc and B12, and plan to add magnesium. I also take time for myself, enjoy my own company, and listen to music to stay balanced.

How does being profoundly gifted and thinking in systems shape the way you learn?

I skip ahead to advanced topics in neuroscience and exercise science because I get disengaged by surface facts. I learn holistically, so I create challenging, postgrad-level study sets to stay engaged.

How do you study when you don’t learn step-by-step?

Accepted Answer

I use Gizmo AI to tailor holistic, active recall study sets and apps like Prognosis for real-life conditions like GDM, diabetes, Cushing’s disease, etc., connecting to exercise science. I apply the same systems thinking in neuroscience, exploring the whole field including Alzheimer’s.

How do you innovate by integrating dance into exercise science in your workshops?

Accepted Answer

I approach dance as both art and exercise science, linking movement to brain function. My workshops focus on feeling music, activating emotional centers like the amygdala, implicit memory  and promoting flow states. This boosts Neuroplasticity and motor learning, bridging neuroscience with movement.

Yes, it’s all backed by science, but it’s how I think that helps me link different functions/areas in new ways.

Does this approach help with mental health too?

Accepted Answer

My workshops focus on freestyle dance, musicality, and interpretation to reduce stress and nervousness. For those with ADHD, it boosts dopamine, improving focus. Those with anxiety/social anxiety benefit as music immersion helps enter flow states, calming mind and body, supporting mental health.

Why are you skipping the undergraduate route and entering at a postgraduate research level?

I’m skipping ahead because my profile doesn’t align with traditional routes. I’ve already engaged deeply with key concepts, and I’m now seeking mentorship to expand and apply my work at a postgraduate level.

How did your dancing evolve into what you now teach?

Accepted Answer

I danced naturally without counting or prep, flowing through styles unconsciously and entering flow states without knowing it. I’m sensitive to musical nuances others miss, which shapes my musicality. Now I teach using that awareness and embodied cognition to help others connect more deeply.

Why are you going to do a PhD degree?

I will be doing a PhD degree for a few years because I’ve been learning and thinking at a postgraduate level. It’s research-based and fits how I work. I will be studying neuroscience and behavior online at my own pace, using tools like Gizmo to tailor to how I learn.

I will be doing a PhD to push forward with what I want to do, and  going more into the interdisciplinary side of neuroscience. I will have tutors from different areas in Neuroscience. I’ll also be gaining practical experience elsewhere through mentorship and lab experience.

What kind of impact do you want to make as you grow?

I’m not recording anything right now, as what I’m doing can benefit dancers, athletes, and anyone seeking a holistic approach to movement and enhancing flow states, performance, rehab, movement therapy, and fostering collaboration with experts in Neuroscience and Exercise Science.
