Description

Dear Members and Guests

JCI London is delighted to invite to our event part of the Monthly Members’ Meeting Series (‘MMM’) for the year. These events are aimed to provide opportunities for fresh and devoted members to socialise, get a feeling of the organisation and GROW by doing something unique every month.

SCOPE OF THE APRIL EVENT

The primary scope of our April event is (1) to raise awareness and combat the irregularities in our immediate community which ultimately disfavour some group of people ONLY due to their unfavourable circumstances (i.e. young passionate people that do not hold a university diploma or lacking direct access to notable networks etc.) and (2) to define COLLECTIVELY means by which we can break the stereotypes and co-create a fructuous environment enabling everybody to flourish equally.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Our speaker is a fiery, very successful individual, specialising in the technological sector, which has been focusing for years on running powerful social enterprises aimed at giving back. David’s story starts from when he was unemployed at 16 years old, through to today, where he recently stood in the General Election in June 2017 and then as an Alderman in the City of London in December. Every year he is invited to speak with business leaders, people in government, charities and students in education.

Despite starting from humble backgrounds, the pace of his progression is far more than impressive, put it in a modest context. Struggles and insecurities imposed by the society on people with no education and limited opportunities (a scenario which our speaker combated himself) made David take action fiercely in order to change mindsets around himself: in 1987, he was 16 years old and Not in Education, however secured an internship via Employment or Training (NEET) irrespective of being told that lack of education would impede him from securing a specialist job.

Seven years later, in 1994, David became one of the first UK internet entrepreneurs. Over the next ten years his company became one of the top ten UK digital agencies, enabling David to now become a very wealthy player in the capitalist system.

In 2004, David became disillusioned with a system where a few have extreme wealth and the many are left with a lack of social mobility which he now calls the “broken system” – a term coined by himself. As a result, David resigned from the successful internet company in October 2004 and started a journey to get involved in finding ways to fix the “broken system”

What happened next is now published in his book: #eSociety: In the Digital Age, No One Should Be Left Behind www.esocietybook.com available on Amazon and will be further released at our event in April!
