FESTIVAL THEMES

Following the Festival theme of mirrors, the concert opens with Der Spiegel von Arkadien (‘The Mirror of Arcadia’), a stunning piece by Süssmayr - the man famous for completing Mozart’s Requiem.

An exquisite masterpiece - Mozart's Double Piano Concerto follows - rarely performed because of logistical difficulties - and enjoy comparing master and pupil. The competition and playful passing of notes between the soloists, Jean Efflam and Andrea (his wife and an international soloist in her own right), will be joyful and a delight to watch.

The second half features the Music in Action Choir performing a charming piece by Haydn - Insanae et vanae curae, Frank’s popular Panis Angelicus with Jersey soloist and Music in Action Young Artist Omara Silvester, and Mozart’s classic Ave verum corpus. The Jersey Chamber Orchestra completes the programme with Haydn's Symphony No. 47, one of his celebrated masterpieces. To continue the mirrors theme, Haydn demonstrates his brilliance and technical skill in the third movement that creates a palindrome - it’s the same from front to back and back to front!
