About this event

Community • City & Town

A leisurely walk through Jericho with local historian and author Mark Davies, preceded by visit to the Oxford University Press Museum. The emphasis will be on the suburb’s rich literary and artistic associations, ranging from ‘Alice’ and the Pre-Raphaelites to Thomas Hardy, Inspector Morse, and Philip Pullman. Tracing the 200-year transition from lush meadowland to dynamic, sometimes controversial, suburb, the walk will end inside the imposing church of St Barnabas. This is a Jericho Living Heritage Trust 'Jericho 200' event, which will also offer a first chance to purchase the Trust's new book, A Jericho Scrapbook, based on a 1955 compilation of interviews, anecdotes, and illustrations, and annotated by Mark Davies.
