A showcase for emerging, Black-British writers: meet the finalists of the Jericho Prize for Children's Writing 2021

About this event

Come celebrate the Black-British writers breaking through on the scene at our inaugural award ceremony for the Jericho Prize. Meet our five finalists and hear extracts from their brilliant stories.

The competition is for unpublished and self-published Black-British writers and is supported by the Arts Council England and leading children’s publishers Knights Of, Penguin Random House Children’s, and Alanna Max Books, plus the Youth Libraries Group and StoryMix.

Our finalists in two categories are:

Best picture book manuscript for 4 years plus:

  • Diane Ewen
  • Cabbi Charles
  • Seymour Lavine

Best short chapter book manuscript for 7-9 years:

  • Abimbola Salami
  • Ellah Dinnall

Evening's itinerary

  • 7:05pm: Welcome from Jericho Prize founder, Fabia Turner
  • 7:10pm: Meet the five finalists
  • 7:15pm: Picture book writers showcase with readings by Adam, Sadé and Jadzia
  • 7:25pm: Short chapter book writers' showcase with readings by Sadé and Lily
  • 7:30pm: Picture book winner announced LIVE
  • 7:35pm: Short chapter book winner announced LIVE
  • 7:40pm: Close
