JERSEY OPEN MARTIAL ARTS TOURNAMENT FOR CHILDREN

Online ticket sales for this event have now closed. If you haven't yet booked your place, you are able to come along in the morning and pay on the door .
The aim of this tournament is to enable children of all standards to compete in a safe and friendly environment and to build collaboration between the varying martial arts in Jersey.
This tournament will provide Jersey children with the opportunity to compete against students from different clubs without having to travel off island.
It will also highlight the wealth of martial arts classes present in Jersey and give the opportunity for students who are not part of a class to participate in fun activities that will give them an insight into what martial arts involve.
All profits from this event will go to the Jersey Child Care Trust (JCCT) so it is truly standing by it's promise of being for the BENEFIT OF THE CHILDREN OF JERSEY.
4 to 7 year olds : 9.00am till 11.30am
7 to 16 year olds : 12.30pm till 4.00pm
• This event is dependent upon COVID guidance from the States of Jersey. Should the planned event contravene States of Jersey guidance the Open Tournament will be rearranged for a date when the States of Jersey guidance say it is permitted.
• If the event is cancelled due to COVID regulations any tickets purchased will be valid for the rearranged date. If the rearranged tournament date is not convenient a refund can be applied for by email to admin@samuraikickboxing.je
• Please complete the form for each competitor when applying for tickets to this event. No tickets are required for spectators
JERSEY OPEN MARTIAL ART TOURNAMENT 2022
• DATE - Sunday, 6th February 2022
• VENUE - Haute Vallée School, La Grande Route du Mont à L'Abbé, St Helier JE2 3HA
• ELIGIBILITY - A purchased ticket permits a child aged between 4 and 16 years old to compete in ALL categories (age, experience, height and weight criteria apply)
• EARLY BIRD PRICE: until 5pm Monday, 31st January 2022
o £30 for student
o £15 for additional siblings
• STANDARD PRICE: after 5pm Monday, 31st January 2022
o £35 per student
o £20 for additional siblings

ETHICS The success of this categorisation of students and the tournament as a whole depends upon the integrity of the Referees (Martial Art Instructors). It is expected that in this small island community the spirit of 'fair play', 'honesty' and 'respect' will prevail.
TIMING The tournament will be split into 2 sections based on the age of the participants:
GROUP A - 9.00am till 11.30am for students aged 4 to 7 years old (those in Reception to Year 2 at school)
• 9am to 9:10am - Warm-up
• 9:10am - 9:15am - WELCOME - Introduction, seating, High Kick rules
• 9:15am to 9:45am - HIGH KICK
• 9:45am to 9:50am (break)
• 9:50am Introduction to PATTERNS & WEAPON SEQUENCES
• 9:55am to 10:25am – PATTERNS & WEAPON SEQUENCES
• 10:30am to 10:35am (break)
• 10:35am Introduction to POWER
• 10:40am to 11:10am - POWER (Hand & Foot techniques)
• 11:10am to 11:15am (break)
• 11:15pm to 11:30pm FLYING KICK FINAL
GROUP B - 12.30pm till 5pm for students aged 7 to 16 years old (those in Year 3 to Year 11 at school)
• 12:30pm to 12:40pm Warm-up
• 12:40pm to 12:45pm Intro’ to HIGH KICK
• 12:45pm to 1:15pm HIGH KICK
• 1:15pm to 1:20pm (break)
• 1:20pm to 1:25pm Introduction to SPARRING
• 1:25pm to 2:25pm SPARRING & FLYING KICK

HIGH KICK The student delivers a kicking technique of their choice against a target at a set height. If they touch the target with their foot and land in their stance, they qualify for the next round. The winner is the student who kicks the target that no other student can reach. If the contest is drawn, the shortest student in the final wins.
Students divided by AGE and HEIGHT:
• 4 to 7 years old
o UNDER 90cm
o 90cm to UNDER 100cm
o 100cm to UNDER 110cm
o 110cm to UNDER 120cm
o OVER 120cm
• 7 to 16 years old
o UNDER 100cm
o 100cm to UNDER 120cm
o 120cm to UNDER 140cm
o 140cm to UNDER 160cm
o 160cm to UNDER 180cm
o 180cm and above
PATTERNS (KATAS / SEQUENCES)
• Students divided into:
o 4 to 7 years old
o 7 years old and above
• Students will be subdivided by experience into:
o NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE, EXPERIENCED & ADVANCED
• The winner will be decided by 1 Referee (unless 3 referees from different organisations are available) based on:
o Power
o Flow and Grace of Movement
o Technique Accuracy & Difficulty
WEAPON SEQUENCES For all students who have experience in weapon techniques, have the relevant equipment and whose instructor deems it safe for them to compete.
• Students divided into:
o 4 to 7 years old
o 7 years old and above
• Students will be subdivided by Experience into:
o NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE, EXPERIENCED & ADVANCED
• The winner will be decided by 1 Referee (unless 3 referees from different organisations are available) based on:
o Power
o Flow and Grace of Movement
o Technique Accuracy & Difficulty
POWER For all students who have experience in undertaking the required technique and whose instructor deems it safe for them to compete.
• Students divided into the following Age Categories:
o 4 to 7 years old
o 7 years old to 16 years old
• Students will be subdivided by Weight:
o Light
o Medium
o Heavy
The student will deliver a defined technique against a 'break-board' suitable to their AGE DIVISION and Weight. There are 2 competitions:
• HAND TECHNIQUE - Any 'hand technique' against the board
• FOOT TECHNIQUE - Any 'foot technique' against the board
The winner is the student who breaks the board that no one else does. Where several students break the board a harder board is used and if necessary the same board is broken with the same technique delivered with the other side of the body. If a winner still cannot be determined then the lightest of the student finalists win
FLYING KICK Students divided by AGE and HEIGHT:
• 4 to 7 years old
o UNDER 90cm
o 90cm to UNDER 100cm
o 100cm to UNDER 110cm
o 110cm to UNDER 120cm
o OVER 120cm
• 7 to 16 years old
o UNDER 100cm
o 100cm to UNDER 120cm
o 120cm to UNDER 140cm
o 140cm to UNDER 160cm
o 160cm to UNDER 180cm
o 180cm and above

SPARRING There will be 2 types of sparring available at the tournament:
• BOXING • HAND AND FOOT SPARRING
Sparring is for any student with the necessary sparring equipment and whose instructor believes they have the required level of maturity and control to spar safely without hurting themselves or others.
• Minimum of 1 min’ rounds in an 'open' ring, 2 x 1 min’ final
• The Referee will decide the winner (unless 3 ring judges from different organisations are available on the day)
• Students divided by AGE:
o 4 to 7 years old
o 7 years old to 16 years old
• Students will then be subdivided by: Experience & Height (Weight: Light, Medium & Heavy)
BOXING
1 point for each controlled hit to a specified target area
• NOVICE - Light Point-Stop boxing to the body only (points deducted for repeated low guard). Enclosed martial art or boxing gloves and mouth guard are required to participate in this event (fingerless MMA gloves are not acceptable)
• INTERMEDIATE - Light Point-Stop boxing. Boxing gloves and mouth guard are required to participate in this event (open hand gloves are not acceptable)
• EXPERIENCED - Light Continuous boxing. Boxing gloves and mouth guard are required to participate in this event (open hand gloves are not acceptable)
HAND AND FOOT SPARRING 1 point for a controlled hand technique to a defined target area, 2 points for a kick to the body (above the waist) and 3 points for a kick to the head.
The Equipment required to compete in Hand and Foot Sparring includes:
• Foot Guards
• Shin Guards
• Groin Guard
• Boxing or Martial Art Gloves
• Mouth Guard
• Boxing or Martial Art Helmet.
• NOVICE - Light Point-Stop sparring to the body only (points deducted for repeated low guard)
• INTERMEDIATE - Light Point-Stop, above the waist only sparring
• EXPERIENCED & ADVANCED - Light continuous, above the waist only sparring
