The JSF is delighted to host its second 'on Island' conference. Again leading specialists in the field of sport, health and fitness are being brought together by the JSF to explore and educate about youth sport, movement, and the tackling of sedentary behaviours and related disease. The time to improve our sport and health is now!

Last year the conference welcomed delegates from many different sectors involved in sport, health, PE and fitness and as such created a movement that has not stopped since!

We aim to provide all delegates with the most up to date knowledge and practical tools to change sport, health and fitness forever. The conference will also provide an excellent opportunity to network and connect with other likeminded individuals in the field.

This is certainly one not to be missed. Jersey is a unique destination, not only for sport but due to all of the scenery and landscapes that it boasts. To maximise the experience delegates have previously combined their
learning and a short holiday in this beautiful island.

Rant & Rave

This session is the first of its type to be held in Jersey! You will have your opportunity to 'rant' or 'rave' about key issues in sport, exercise, health and PE in front of key industry leaders and politicians.


Liz Myers

During this session Liz will take you on a fascinating journey into the history and philosophy of Physical Literacy, what it is and what it isn’t, and provide simple recommendations about its holistic implementation in all areas of society i.e. sport, school and in the home. The session should appeal to all teachers, parents, healthcare providers and coaches as Physical Literacy is an essential life skill and makes a major contribution to both health and sport.

Liz is an Educational Consultant and Managing Director at Scholary Ltd. Upon leaving the Royal Navy in 2006, Liz studied at the University of Bedfordshire and achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Physical Education (Secondary) with QTS. During her final year Liz was introduced to Margaret Whitehead who acted as her dissertation supervisor and was introduced to the concept of Physical Literacy. Unknown at the time, this introduction to Physical Literacy would go on to form the foundation of her professional teaching practice and research.

Liz graduated in 2010 and began teaching at Devizes School, Wiltshire. Whilst at Devizes Liz held a number of positions of responsibility, including School Sports Coordinator, Projects Coordinator, KS3 Coordinator and eventually went on to set up the Devizes Schools Sports Network, a sports partnership aimed at supporting primary schools within the local area, helping them to achieve high quality physical education that is underpinned by principles of Physical Literacy.

Liz has a developing academic profile. Whilst teaching, Liz completed a MSc in Psychology (The Open University) and a MA in Education (The University of Bath). Liz is currently undertaking a PhD in Physical Literacy at the University of Bedfordshire. Liz left full time teaching in April 2014 to dedicate more time to her PhD and to work full time at Scholary. Liz also co-founded PE Scholar in 2010, a free online community website for sharing physical education resources.


David Kennedy

David’s session will be exploring Jersey's own physical literacy journey, presenting never seen before data on over 2000 school children and providing some specific calls to action.

David's role with Jersey Sport is to oversee the work of the development team, manage agreements and partnerships with stakeholders, and ensure Jersey Sport demonstrates best practice in sports governance.

Prior to David's role at Jersey Sport, he was a Sports Development Manager with the States of Jersey. David’s experience in Sports Development spans over 20 years which started as Football Development Officer in Midlothian, Scotland.

David has been instrumental in raising the profile of physical education in Jersey over the past decade, and alongside our own John Scriven, was responsible for introducing physical literacy to primary schools in 2015.

Rob Anderson

During this session Rob will look at the unique challenges facing youth athletes and their coaches, explore the myths and fallacies of training youth athletes, and conduct a practical on how to integrate movement training into sports sessions. This session will appeal to anyone involved in working with movement with children and want to be up-to-date with best practice, as well as anyone interested in debunking a few myths!

Rob Anderson from 'Athletic Evolution' a specialist organisation focusing on education and consultancy around the development and training of youth athletes. Rob is also currently a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Scottish Rugby where he works daily with a broad range of athletes. Rob holds a MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Physiology, and is also currently completing a PGCE alongside his other roles.

Rob's specialises in the education and consultancy surrounding topics on the physical development and coaching of youth athletes specifically. These include biological maturation, psychological preparation, prioritisation and organisation of training, as well as general coaching skills.



Stuart Green

During this session, Stuart will explore the fascinating developmental physiological approach to movement coaching, providing delegates with a deep appreciation of our pre-programmed movement patterns gifted to us at birth, according to DNS theory. Stuart will explore how these are lost, how we can adapt our training and daily life to regain them and provide a path to pain free living and optimised performance for all . This will be a true eye opener for all and will benefit coaches, personal trainers or anyone interested in living a pain free healthy life.

Stuart is the owner and founder of Functional Therapy, a highly successful business based in London and Portugal that specialises in a developmental movement competency approach to human performance and pain. To our knowledge this is the first education session of its type of be held on the Island.

Stuart holds a BSc (Hons) and a MSc in Sport and Exercise Science as well as world renowned movement qualifications to include, C.H.E.K. III, CHEK HLC II, TPI Level I, CHEK Golf Performance Specialist and a Dynamic Neurmuscular Stabilisation (DNS) Rehabilitation and Performance Specialist.

Stuart’s deep interest in achieving the most for his clients and thirst for knowledge led him to study a BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science and then further his education with an MSc. in Exercise Science. Over his 15-year career, he specialised in back pain and spinal rehabilitation. Stuart's unique knowledge has been cultivated by studying with world renowned experts on key orthopedic structures including the spine, pelvis and thorax. His development has also been supplemented by close study with Consultant Neurosurgeons at the London Spine Clinic. This close mentoring has enable him to treat many spinal disorders successfully with a particular interest in spondylolisthesis and SIJ dysfunction. His unique expertise is sought by surgeons and individuals wanting successful rehabilitation after spinal surgery, including microdiscectomy, as well as lumbar fusions. His love for golf lead him to study Golf Biomechanics and Performance Conditioning both at the Titleist Performance Institute and the CHEK Institute. This has led Stuart to be the man that both European Tour Professionals and amateur golfers turn to when they want improve their golf fitness and get them quickly back to playing after injury.



Jersey Sport Foundation Performance Team (Special Free Friday Night Expo) 30 spaces only, first come first served.

During this session the JSF team will unravel the confusing and complex world of exercise prescription in sport and exercise. In a workshop based setting, the team will provide you with a simple tool for choosing the exact movement exercises for your specific sport and how to apply it. The session has proved extremely popular historically as it provides a highly valuable and fool proof system for the classification of all your exercises not currently available anywhere else. Included will be the whole progression from general low level physical skills to highly specific and advanced exercises, ensuring you do the right things at the right times, and get the most out of athletes while ensuring they remain healthy. The session ends up in a huge lightbulb moment when delegates realise you are able to understand where everything fits see the whole system, and can instantly make a bigger impact on your athletes/clients by getting rid of the non-essentials. The information contained in the session is exactly what the JSF Team use to programme all athletes, and it is the first time it has been made public. This session will appeal to anyone who works in sport, fitness or rehabilitation who want to understand how to programme movement for the best results over the long term.


FAQs

What accomodation is available during the conference?

The Jersey Sport Foundation has agreed a special delegate rate with the Radisson Blu Hotel, at £110 per night p/p inclusive of breakfast. Please quote the JSF Conference 2018 when booking for this rate. Alternatively, please contact us for help with booking accommodation. This rate can be extended to multiple nights if you would like a break away in Jersey after the conference.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Yes, please note that this conference is for anyone over the age of 12. Please bring photo ID along with your ticket.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

By Plane:

There is only one airport in Jersey. From the Airport, you can either take the No 15 bus to St Helier Bus Station, and walk to the Radisson Hotel which is only 5 minutes away. We can provide a route map from the Bus Station to the Radisson Hotel on request. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the airport to the Radisson.

By Boat:

There is only one main ferry terminal in Jersey which is Elizabeth Harbour. From the harbour the Radisson Hotel is a 5 minute walk away. A route map can be provided from the Harbour to the Hotel on request.

Parking:

There is ample free parking at the Radisson Hotel car park. Please let us know if you are planning to park at the Hotel so we can have a badge printed for you to put on the dashboard for the duration of the day.

Is lunch provided?

Yes, there will be light lunch offered and a beverage selection at set breaks to include; coffee, tea and water.

What can/can't I bring to the event?

It is advisable to bring some snacks with you as well as loose fitting clothes for practical elements. Notepads and pens will be provided. Please refrain from the use of video recording/ photo graphs unless the speaker has confirmed that is ok.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, please be sure to bring either your printed ticket or e-ticket to the event. These will be electronically scanned.

What is the refund policy?

You will be able to gain a 100% refund up to and including 9th April 2018 prior to the event. (A 100% refund after 9th May 2018 will only be considered in an emergency).

Refunds between 9th April - 9th May 2018 (inclusive) will be offered at 50%.

No refunds will be offered between 9th May 2018 onwards (except in extreme circumstances).

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

No, please ensure that your name matches the ticket name. If you cannot attend, and wish to gift someone else the ticket, please contact us and we will send you an amended ticket. ID will be required.
