Event description

Description

Jessica Eaton is an engaging, passionate speaker, lecturer, researcher and writer in field of sexual violence. With a career history in the management of victim and witness services in the criminal justice system, training and managing rape counselling services, setting up the first male mental health centre in the UK and training thousands of police, social workers, health staff, councillors, psychologists and local authority staff in child sexual abuse and safeguarding.

Currently at the Centre for Criminological and Forensic Psychology at the University of Birmingham as a Doctoral Researcher undertaking PhD in Forensic Psychology, Jessica specialises in the way women and girls are socialised to be blamed when they experience sexual harassment, assault or abuse and are encouraged to blame themselves.

In a series of new open-access lectures, entitled 'Jessica Eaton Talks About...' Jessica will be presenting interactive, informative lectures and talks to anyone over the age of 16 years old. Each event will challenge and engage the audience in all different topics within sexual violence. Signed certificates of attendance can be made available for anyone wanting proof of their participation in the lectures but these sessions are open to general public - all genders, all communities and all backgrounds. For anyone with an interest in psychology, social issues and abuse.

This lecture 'Jessica Eaton Talks About: Breaking down shame, guilt and blame after sexual violence' will discuss why people feel these three key emotions after they have experienced sexual violence and how we can help people to reduce these feelings by the way we respond to them.

All lectures end with a Q and A session and will include advice about how to support a loved one or how to seek support.
