Event description

Description

Please sign up using your CRSId and University email, as only Jesus College students will be admitted to the session.

Jesus College provides a programme across the year to help Jesus College students improve their academic skills. The idea is to help make the transition from secondary education to university studies go as smoothly as possible and to encourage all students to fulfill their potential here. While designed for undergraduate freshers, those in other years and graduate students may also benefit from the programme, and are most welcome to attend any of the sessions if there is space available.

We have arranged a series of practical sessions on academic skills throughout the year. Attendance at these sessions is strongly recommended, but the places are limited. These sessions aim to improve and hone all aspects of your work here at Cambridge, which will prove invaluable later on.

This session takes place in two parts:

2- 2.45pm: Thinking about sources and acknowledgement
2.45-3.30pm: Long essays, dissertations and managing sources

The idea is to get students thinking about attributing material they have found elsewhere in their work, academic integrity and referencing systems. In the second part, we will consider electronic databases that can do a lot of the heavy listing in terms of reference management and creating bilbiographies. The second part will be of significant use to those producing long essays and dissertations.
