About this event

Jewellery Workshop - Make Your Own Talisman

Join for an evening of mindful creativity as we explore the ancient art of talisman making. A talisman is a meaningful object believed to hold personal power and significance, traditionally crafted to bring protection, luck, or manifest intentions.

In this workshop, you’ll create your own unique piece of jewellery infused with personal meaning.

Design, carve and sculpt your personal talisman from soft wax into a pendant in a relaxed environment. This meditative evening workshop offers a perfect escape from the busy world – a chance to slow down, connect with your creativity, and craft something meaningful.

Venue:

  • Big Penny Social is a 7 minute walk from Blackhorse Road Underground Station on the Victoria Line.
  • Food and Drink available to order. - https://bigpennysocial.co.uk/food-and-drink

What to Bring:

Dress casually - We’ll be working with wax dust and occasionally melting wax, so best to leave your fancy clothes at home. An apron is welcome but definitely not required.

Design ideas (optional) - Feel free to brainstorm beforehand if you’re feeling inspired, but no pressure. We’ll have plenty of time during the workshop to develop your ideas.

Just yourself, I’ve got all the tools, materials, and equipment covered.

Frequently asked questions

1. Do I need any artistic experience to participate in this workshop?

Not at all! This workshop is specifically designed for beginners. We provide step-by-step guidance, examples, and all the support you need. The focus is on the meaningful process of creation, not technical perfection.

2. How does the casting process work after I create my wax design?

After the workshop, we'll send your wax piece to our professional casters. They use a "lost wax" casting technique, your wax piece is encased in a plaster-like material, melted away, and replaced with your chosen metal. The final piece maintains all the details you carved into the wax.

3. Can I create something specific, like a particular symbol or shape that's meaningful to me?

Absolutely! During the workshop, we'll help you translate your concept into a workable design. We'll have reference materials and examples to inspire you, but creating something with personal significance is what makes a talisman truly powerful.

4. What's the difference between the metal options, and how do I decide?

Recycled silver offers a classic look that's also eco-friendly. Gold vermeil has the appearance of gold but more affordable (silver with a thick layer of 18k gold). Solid gold is the premium option. During the workshop, we'll discuss the properties of each to help you make the best choice for you.

5. What if I'm not happy with my design during the workshop? Can I start over?

Yes! We bring some extra materials. If you're not happy with your first attempt, you're welcome to begin again. Part of the workshop experience is about enjoying the process without judgment.

6. Is the £55 workshop fee paid in advance, and when do I pay for the metal casting?

The workshop fee is paid when booking to secure your spot. After the workshop, if you're happy with your wax creation, you'll select your metal option and pay for the casting separately at the event. This allows you to make an informed decision about your investment after seeing your finished design
