Seeing the Light
Explore our new exhibition 'Seeing the Light' with Creative Commissions Producer, Aras Amiri and Senior Registrar, Helena Kergozou.
This lunchtime talk offers an opportunity to look at the evolving role of light in art. The session begins with how light has been used and understood from early symbolic depictions to shifts driven by science, philosophy, and cultural change. From there, we turn to the exhibition itself, which looks at light in three key ways as subject matter, as a contemplative experience, and as something distinctly shaped by the landscape and atmosphere of Jersey.
Key works will be discussed, including Portrait of Health by Millais, Waves at L’Etacq by Henley, and Jersey, My Childhood Home by Arthur. The talk ends with an open discussion, where attendees can share their own reflections on how light - both in art and life - shapes the way we see and feel.
The talk is available in two 30-minute time slots, 13:00 -13:30 & 13:30 - 14:00 (sign-up required), in the second floor gallery of Jersey Museum.
Booking is essential – 15 FREE tickets are available for each session to Jersey Heritage Members only.
