Event description

Description

In June 2017, Joan Bicknell died at the age of 78.

A brilliant clinician who was appointed professor of psychiatry of learning disability – the first British female professor of psychiatry – at St George’s, University of London, Joan was a life-long campaigner for the rights of people with learning disabilities, putting the disabled person and their family at the centre of each consultation.

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust and St George’s University of London, together with Baroness Sheila Hollins, will be celebrating her life and work with a memorial event to be held at Springfield Hospital in Tooting, where Joan did much of her pioneering clinical work.

Friends, family and colleagues are invited to join us to remember Joan and all she did to transform care for people with learning disabilities

  • Date: 19 October 2017
  • Time: 10.30am – 2.30pm
  • Venue: Conference Room A, Springfield Hospital, 61 Glenburnie Road, Tooting, SW17 7DJ
