Event description
A talk about Islington's most infamous residents, playwright Joe Orton and artist Kenneth Halliwell, who lived (and died!) in the borough.

About this Event

Islington Museum's historian Mark Aston presents a special history about Islington's most famous and infamous residents. Joe Orton had a short but acclaimed career as London's most popular playwright, author of transgressive and wildly entertaining plays such as LOOT and ENTERTAINING MR SLOANE.

Orton and his partner Kenneth Halliwell lived at 25 Noel Road, and the borough of Islington played a big part in their lives where they lived worked and played, and in the case of Islington South Library, the scene of their highly memorable "malicious damage."

Historian Mark Aston leads an insightful and engaging seminar on their lives and legacy, and how Islington has embraced the colourful and tragic legacies of the two men.
