John Buchan: the master storyteller

2025 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of John Buchan, author of more than 100 books and 1000 articles.

Ursula Buchan will talk about the range of his fiction and its subject matter. She will look at how he wrote his books, got them published, and how they impacted his life and the life of others, especially young people. She will also discuss his writing techniques with reference to some of the novels and short stories.

About the speaker

Ursula Buchan studied modern history at Cambridge University, and horticulture at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. She is an award-winning journalist and author, having written eighteen books and contributed regularly to the Spectator, Observer, Independent, Sunday Telegraph, Daily Telegraph, and The Garden. She is vice-chairman of the John Buchan Society.
