Description

WHAT DOES A LABOUR GOVERNMENT MEAN FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

Please join the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer John McDonnell M.P. and Jo Pike, Parliamentary Candidate for Shipley.

John McDonnell will talk about the greatest challenges that lie ahead for our society and share his vision for a new economics, followed by audience questions.

This event provides a unique opportunity to discuss the kind of policies that will help small businesses thrive under a Labour Government.

Labour recognises that small and medium sized enterprises make up 60% of private sector jobs and this is the reason we have put support for businesses at the heart of our industrial strategy. We recognise that support for business is crucial for jobs, economic growth and the long- term stability of the economy

In 2018, Business Insider stated that our manifesto “provided more evidence that Labour is moving closer to the business community as the Tories move away from it”. We want to hear directly from businesses about how a Labour Government can help you.

Arrivals 3.00pm - Speeches 3.30pm - Questions from the floor 4.00pm

If you have a question for John McDonnell, please submit it with your details to:

There will be a raffle of highly collectible Labour Party items – please come along prepared to Dig Deep!

LABOUR PLEDGES FOR BUSINESS

CREATE A NATIONAL INVESTMENT BANK

Mandate the new National Investment Bank, and Regional Development Banks in every region, to identify where other lenders fail to meet the needs of SMEs and prioritise lending to improve the funding gap.

REFORM BUSINESS RATES

Introduce a package of reforms to business rates, including switching from RPI to CPI indexation, exempting new investment in plant and machinery from valuations and ensuring that businesses have access to a proper appeal process.

SCRAP QUARTERLY REPORTING

The administrative burden of reporting falls disproportionally on smaller businesses. Labour will scrap quarterly reporting for businesses with a turnover of under £85,000.

END CULTURE OF LATE PAYMENTS

Labour will use government procurements to ensure that anyone bidding for a government contract pays its own suppliers within 30 days. We will introduce a version of the Australian system of binding arbitration and fines for persistent late payers for the private and public sectors.

REDUCE TAX FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

Level the playing field between large and small businesses by reinstating the lower small business corporation tax rate. This would apply to companies with annual profits below £300,000 and would be set at 20%, rising to 21% in 2020-21. Larger companies must pay their fair share with corporation tax reaching 26% by 2020-21

Promoted by JOE ASHTON on behalf of JO PIKE, both at 18 SANDALS ROAD, BAILDON, WEST YORKSHIRE, BD175QA
