Event description
John Smith is a genuine folksinger, an inquisitive truth-seeker, devoted song interpreter and enchanting writer.

About this event

John Smith was born in Essex and raised on the Devon seaside. Known for his intimate songwriting, his honey-on-gravel voice and pioneering guitar playing, he has spent the last fifteen years touring internationally and has amassed over 40 million streams on Spotify. As a session musician he has played guitar with artists as diverse as Joan Baez, David Gray, Joe Henry, Lianne La Havas and Tom Jones.

2021 sees Smith release his sixth studio album, The Fray. Throughout the collection of new songs, Smith touches on not just his own emotional turmoil experienced over the past year, but also his observance of the pain of those around him. But it is Smith’s stubborn optimism that shines through and differentiates his experiences and songs from his influences and contemporaries. His traits of holding onto hope, forgiving transgressions, and reckoning with his place in a world which doesn’t always reciprocate are not only necessary for Smith to deal, they’re contagious to anyone who finds themselves in similar situations, adrift in the wind.

For those who echo that sentiment, from experience, Smith shares his message on The Fray; “If we don’t hold on, we’re lost.”

£16 advanced tickets.

Organiser Gosforth Civic Theatre

Organiser of John Smith plus support Hannah Read

We're an arts venue and cafe in Gosforth, Newcastle which is home to, and run by, Liberdade Community Development Trust, a charity that works with people with learning disabilities and autism, giving them a place to belong, work and get involved in the arts and their community.

Like all arts organisations we want to change the world, we want to bring people together to create understanding, we want to decide what is the new normal by being extraordinary, and we want to shape our community by telling our stories and providing a home for everyone to enjoy.

We’re a not-for-profit organisation so every penny you spend at our bar and café supports the venue and the work we do.
