Event description
Join us to find out how you can use your legal skills and experience in providing strategic legal interventions in the fight against poverty

About this Event

Lawyers Against Poverty is a network of lawyers who are committed to using their skills and experiences to support the fight against poverty.

Access to justice and rule of law are fundamental in securing and maintaining rights for disadvantaged groups in the UK and abroad. As lawyers, our members are able to provide strategic support, both as volunteers and through donations to our Justice Fund, in areas such as refugee rights, women's rights and indigenous rights to land.

Please join us to hear about current issues on the topics of women’s rights and refugee support from our guest speakers:

Tsitsi Matekaire from Equality Now will address the issue of sex trafficking in Africa

Philip Worthington of European Lawyers in Lesvos will speak about his work advising asylum seekers in Lesvos, Greece

Adrian Henderson of LAP will talk about volunteering opportunities for lawyers within our refugee support group in the UK

We will also discuss our plans for the future development of the charity as we launch an exciting new phase for Lawyers Against Poverty.

For further information please contact louise.curd@lawyersagainstpoverty.org

NB Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our and his control, Dominic Grieve QC MP will not be able to speak at this event as previously advertised. We hope to welcome him as a speaker at an event in early 2020. Apologies for any inconvenience.
