Event description

Description

Join us at the Jolly Drovers Maze in Leadgate to help us with our ongoing project to maintain the earth sculpture by removing saplings and scything overgrown vegetation. Of course it's not just about keeping it tidy - this huge grassland area provides excellent habitat for a range of animals and invertebrates and has great potential for improvement as a wildflower meadow so raking the cut grass will help to encourage a more diverse range of wildflowers to germinate in the spring. Join us for as long as you can - no need to stay all day! And don't worry if you haven't done any scything before, staff will be on hand to show you how to do it.

Meeting location: Jolly Drovers Pub Car Park, Pont Lane, Leadgate (see link below for exact location)

What to bring/wear: Wear sturdy footwear with good grip as although we won’t be working on slopes the ground may be muddy/uneven. Dress appropriately for the weather and bring waterproofs just in case. Please also bring with you a packed lunch and refreshments. Tools and protective equipment will be provided but a pair of gardening gloves would come in handy if you have them.

Other Information: We encourage those wishing to attend to arrive on foot or by bike where possible. For those of you arriving by car please park responsibly. Parking is available in the Jolly Drovers pub car park but you may need to make a purchase in the pub. Please note that participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

This event has been organised as part of Sustrans' Greener Greenways project which looks to improve our routes for people and wildlife
