About this event

New historical drama By PTUK unveils unlikely friendship, resistance, Haunting Justice and Faith.

JoMarZeb, Philippine Theatre UK 23rdAnniversary production Premieres this October at the Chelsea Theatre London. It will take us from the streets of 1940s Manila to the shadows of modern Oxford.

A new theatrical production, JoMarZeb, is set to captivate audiences with a gripping tale of friendship, resistance, and unfinished reckonings that stretch across centuries and continents.

Set against the backdrop of mid 1940s Manila, the play follows three unlikely friends: a devout young woman destined for the convent, a fiery law student determined to challenge colonial rule, and a soft-spoken teacher with dreams of shaping a nation. Amid the turbulence of WW2 Philippines, their bond is tested and forged in the fires of love, faith, and revolution.

When World War II erupts and the Japanese occupation engulfs their homeland, the trio reunites,as friends and as freedom fighters. Caught after aiding the Filipina women of

comfort escape, they are subjected to a brutal mock trial, and ultimately executed as traitors.

Seventy years later, in the quiet academic halls of Oxford University, their ghosts begin to haunt an unsuspecting physics professor. Why him? Why now? As the professor's world unravels, secrets long buried resurface, and the boundaries between science, history, and the supernatural blur. The answers lie in the past — in betrayal, bravery, and a promise never fulfilled.

Written by acclaimed Award-winning director and playwright Ramon C. Teñoso, JoMarZeb explores themes of loyalty, justice, colonial trauma, and the weight of memory. It is a story about how history haunts us, sometimes literally, and the way human connections transcend even death. The key word is: Faith.
